Aftercare Instructions by Piercing:

  • Healing Time: 6-8 weeks

If you have any sensitivity or crust forming around your piercing (even the tiniest bit), then you’re not finished healing! Do NOT remove your jewelry until your piercing is fully healed.

    DO THIS:

•Always wash your hands before interacting with your piercing.

•KEEP IT CLEAN! Spray your piercing twice a day and as needed (after sweating, outdoor activities, etc.) with sterile purified saline solution and use a Q-Tip to gently remove any built-up lymph or dried blood (“crust”) around the piercing; any remaining crust will rinse off in the shower. Your hands should not come into direct contact with your piercing or jewelry during this process. NEVER rotate or move your jewelry back and forth through the piercing. Continue this cleansing routine until your piercing is healed.

•Change your bed sheets and clothing on a regular basis to avoid bacteria.

•Perform a warm saline soak once per week. In a clean container just big enough to dunk your earlobe into, heat saline solution in the microwave until warm. Submerge your earlobe into the warm saline for 5 minutes. After soaking, spray the piercing with fresh, sterile saline solution. If using a container is too challenging, submerge a cotton ball into the warm saline solution and then gently place the cotton ball on top of the piercing. Do not move the cotton ball while soaking the piercing.

•Check the tops and balls of your jewelry on a regular basis to ensure tightness. Ball/top replacement is not a free service.

Sea Salt Measurements for Warm Saline Soak:

•¼ teaspoon salt in 8 ounces of water

•4 teaspoons salt in 1 gallon of water

***Use distilled water & sea salt • Keep pre-made salt mixture in refrigerator • Shake well before use.

    DO NOT DO THIS:

•DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PIERCING WITH DIRTY HANDS.

•DO NOT touch, rotate, twist, pull, pick at, or play with your piercing!

•DO NOT swim for 8-10 weeks. Chlorine is very drying and irritating to new piercings. If swimming is unavoidable, soak the piercing and rinse with sterile saline solution immediately after swimming. Absolutely avoid swimming in hot tubs, rivers, lakes and oceans.

•DO NOT apply rubbing alcohol, peroxide, ointments, BZK products to your piercing (ex. Ear-care solution, Bactine, or Epsom salt).

•DO NOT change jewelry prematurely without the approval and assistance of your piercer.

•DO NOT cover your piercing with make-up, make-up remover, face wash, lotion, sunscreen, etc.

•DO NOT take advice from friends. There’s a lot of misinformation out there. :(

***If jewelry begins to sink into your piercing or feels tight after swelling has occurred, contact me ASAP!

    TIPS FOR BETTER HEALING:

•Piercing pillows are your friend! Use a donut pillow (pillow with a hole in it, airplane neck pillows work, too) when sleeping on your side to alleviate pressure and irritation to your new piercing. As with anything in close contact with a healing piercing, make sure the pillow is CLEAN.

•For easier cleaning, before you get out of the shower, let lukewarm water run over your piercing for a minute to wash off or soften any crust that’s stuck to your jewelry; this also ensures that no soap residues are left behind.

•Healthy people heal better! Healing piercings makes your immune system put in overtime, so treat your body well. Eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, get enough sleep and exercise!

Piercing pillows are your friend! Use a donut pillow (pillow with a hole in it, airplane neck pillows work, too) when sleeping on your side to alleviate pressure and irritation to your new piercing. As with anything in close contact with a healing piercing, make sure the pillow is CLEAN.

For easier cleaning, before you get out of the shower, let lukewarm water run over your piercing for a minute to wash off or soften any crust that’s stuck to your jewelry; this also ensures that no soap residues are left behind.

Healthy people heal better! Healing piercings makes your immune system put in overtime, so treat your body well. Eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, get enough sleep and exercise!

  • Healing Time: 6-9 months

If you have any sensitivity or crust forming around your piercing (even the tiniest bit), then you’re not finished healing! Do NOT remove your jewelry until your piercing is fully healed.

    DO THIS:

•Always wash your hands before interacting with your piercing.

•KEEP IT CLEAN! Spray your piercing twice a day and as needed (after sweating, outdoor activities, etc.) with sterile purified saline solution. Use a Q-Tip to gently remove any built-up lymph (“crust”) or dried blood around the piercing; any remaining crust will rinse off in the shower.

In a clean container just big enough to dunk your ear into, heat saline solution in the microwave until warm. Submerge your ear into the warm saline for 5 minutes.

At some point, you may snag it so hard that it comes out. If that happens and you can’t find your jewelry, come see me ASAP. If you do find your jewelry, clean it with alcohol and reinsert it ASAP. It’s helpful to use liquid soap as a lubricant when reinserting your jewelry.

    TIPS FOR BETTER HEALING:

For easier cleaning, before you get out of the shower, let lukewarm water run over your piercing for a minute to wash off or soften any crust that’s stuck to your jewelry; this also ensures that no soap residues are left behind.

Anything that causes contact or friction to your jewelry, DON’T DO IT.

•When washing your face, do not wash directly over your piercing; wash around it and let the soap and water fall over it. Rinse with sterile saline solution after washing.

Healthy people heal better! Healing piercings makes your immune system put in overtime, so treat your body well. Eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, get enough sleep and exercise!

  • Healing Time: 2-3 months

Your hands should not come into direct contact with your piercing or jewelry during this process. NEVER rotate or move your jewelry back and forth through the piercing. Continue this cleansing routine until your piercing is healed.
